Tammy SandovalWelcome to my ePortfolio!
I’ve come to work almost every day of my 30+ year career in Child Welfare thinking “We Can Do It”! Even beginning as a new social worker in Janesville, WI I thought I could improve the lives of children and their families. Then moving into supervision and management in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I was determined to effect best practice of those I supervised. When salmon fishing called out to my husband and me, we took a leap of faith and made the move to Alaska. I soon became the Director of the Office of Children’s Services and then on to the University of Alaska as the Director of the Child Welfare Academy. After a long career in intervening in the lives of families where child maltreatment has been alleged, I’ve grown to understand the need for prevention. And the importance of getting new child welfare workers off to a good start so that they too can have a long successful career in child welfare. There’s not much that I think I can’t do and believe that together we can make much needed changes in the world to improve people’s lives. We Can Do It! EducationMy Bachelor of Arts in Social Work is from the University of Wisconsin and my Master of Social Work is from New Mexico Highlands University.
